ABOUT
Dr. Sawtelle has been working with children, adolescents, adults and families for over 20 years. A graduate of Amherst College with a B.A in Psychology, and of William James College with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Sawtelle has been in private practice in Brookline, MA for 10 years. He has worked as a staff psychologist at The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health, in pediatric psychiatric research at Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as in college counseling and other academic clinical settings. Currently Dr. Sawtelle offers a variety of clinical services and consultations through his practice, primarily in the form of individual psychotherapy. He also offers family and couples' therapy, and works both in-person and via telehealth.

I take great pride in working thoughtfully to create a welcoming, safe space for each and every client who steps into my office. As I truly believe that each person requires and deserves a well-considered, customized approach to enhance their therapeutic experience, I draw from a variety of techniques and theoretical approaches based on the individual(s) and their presenting issues. From day-to-day circumstances to relationship struggles to significant mood disturbances to traumatic experiences, I work diligently to gently guide my clients to deeper levels of emotional understanding and comfort.

INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY
I offer individual therapy for children, adolescents and adults involving a variety of approaches tailored to the need of the client. From play therapy with younger children, to relational work with adolescents, to psychodynamic and in-depth relational therapy with adults, I create a comfortable, safe environment in order for us to do valuable work together.
PARENT GUIDANCE AND FAMILY THERAPY
Having worked clinically with children and families for many years, I additionally offer parent guidance and family therapy. Through approaches such as collaborative problem solving and relational work tailored to a family's needs, I offer a helpful perspective when parenting or family circumstances can feel "stuck".
COUPLES' THERAPY
Navigating the complexities and challenges of relationships can come with myriad, often seemingly insurmountable issues. Having worked with families and couples for many years, I offer couples' therapy to help facilitate these communications and steer towards healthier relationships and deeper mutual understanding.
